Tobi Amusan was unable to defend her women’s 100m hurdles crown at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, settling for bronze after a difficult race at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Amusan, the world record holder, started well from the blocks but lost rhythm after the opening hurdles, her grimace revealing the struggle as Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds pulled decisively ahead.
Charlton claimed gold in 12.33 seconds, Simmonds took silver, and Amusan crossed third in 12.60.
Four years earlier Amusan had edged Charlton to win in Birmingham, and she was aiming to become the first woman to win three straight Commonwealth Games titles in the event after remaining unbeaten at the Games since her 2018 debut in Gold Coast. This time she couldn’t close the gap.
The bronze is Nigeria’s second athletics medal of the night - earlier Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won the country’s first men’s shot put gold at these Games.
Team Nigeria now has 16 medals in Glasgow: eight gold, five silver, and three bronze.
