Erling Haaland delivered a second-half double to fire Norway past Brazil 2-1 and into the World Cup quarterfinals in New Jersey.
The Manchester City striker opened the scoring in the 79th minute when he outmuscled Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhães and met Andreas Schjelderup’s cross with a powerful header that beat Alisson.
With Brazil pushing for an equalizer, Haaland struck again in the 90th minute. Receiving space outside the box, he rifled a low shot through Danilo’s legs into the net, with Schjelderup again credited for the assist.
The two goals lift Haaland to seven in the tournament so far - plus an assist - in his World Cup debut, and increase his remarkable international tally to 62 goals in 54 caps for Norway.
His performance moves him up the Golden Boot leaderboard - same level at the time with Argentina’s Lionel Messi and France’s Kylian Mbappe - and thus cements Norway’s place in the last eight.
