Algeria claimed the bronze medal at WAFCON after defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in a tense third-place match.
Morocco struck first when Kautar Azraf opened the scoring, sending the Atlas Lionesses into the break with a 1-0 lead. Early in the second half Maryam Atiq appeared to extend that advantage, but her goal was ruled out, keeping the margin slim.
Algeria kept pressing and were rewarded in the 83rd minute when Lina Boussaha fired home the equaliser to make it 1-1. Neither team could break the deadlock in the remaining minutes, taking the contest to spot kicks.
In the shootout, Algeria held their nerve to prevail 3-2 and secure third place. Morocco, after a valiant performance, finished fourth after surrendering a late lead.
