Ashleigh Plumptre has returned to training with Al Ittihad after recovering from a left-foot injury that required surgery, the defender has confirmed.
Plumptre missed Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 WAFCON as she prioritised a full recovery, saying at the time her body “was not ready” and she did not want to risk a setback. That cautious approach has paid off: the Super Falcons starter is now back on the pitch and preparing for the new season.
The defender, valued for her technique, composure, versatility and leadership, is targeting a place in the Super Falcons squad for the upcoming international window when Nigeria face Comoros in Olympic Games qualifying. Coaches and fans alike hope her return will shore up a defence that clearly felt her absence during WAFCON.
“I can’t wait to see her back in the Super Falcons squad, we really missed her,” a team source said. “Having Plumptre fit again will be a huge boost for the team.”
Al Ittihad and the Super Falcons will monitor her progress in training before confirming her availability for international selection.
