Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party holds an early lead in Osun State’s governorship collation after results from 303 of the state’s 332 wards were reported.
Data from the Nigeria Elections Intelligence System, as reported by PUNCH, show Adeleke with 177,572 votes (50.5%), ahead of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who has 158,588 votes (45.1%).
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress is in third with 5,917 votes. Collation continues across all 30 local government areas.
Of the state’s 845,100 registered voters, 361,500 were accredited, giving a turnout of 42.8%. So far 351,500 votes have been declared valid and 7,200 ballots rejected. INEC reported that 43.41% of polling units had submitted results as the collation moved toward conclusion.
Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party ahead of the election, is seeking re-election with running mate Kola Adenusi. Oyebamiji, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), runs with deputy Benjamin Adereti.
INEC’s Returning Officer will formally declare the result once the remaining wards report.
