The Nigeria Super Falcons received a major financial boost after securing their spot in the Women’s Cup quarterfinals.
The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Shehu Dikko, announced that the goal bonus has been increased from $5,000 to $10,000 per goal.
Dikko also said private-sector backers coordinated by Customs General (CG Customs) have matched the NSC’s pledge with an additional $10,000 per goal. Together, the pledges mean the Super Falcons stand earned $120,000 for scoring six goals against Egypt.
In a further morale-boosting decision, the NSC approved full match bonuses for the players despite Nigeria’s loss to Malawi. The commission directed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to pay the team the full match bonuses for all three group matches, including the wins over Zambia and Egypt. That payment ensures the players receive full match rewards in addition to the new goal bonuses.
The financial incentives arrive as the Super Falcons prepare to face continental rivals Cameroon in the quarterfinals, a timely lift for the squad as they chase the 11th silverware.
