Dotun Oladipo, a leading figure in Nigeria’s digital journalism scene and founder of Eagle Online, has died in Lagos at the age of 56.
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) confirmed the sudden passing on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026. GOCOP President Danlami Nmodu announced the loss on the guild’s WhatsApp group, writing: “Very sad announcement. It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.”
Oladipo, who served as GOCOP president and led Premium Eagle Media Limited, built a nearly 30-year career marked by persistent investigative drive and commitment to factual reporting.
He began his journalism journey at Newswatch magazine and later worked with The Punch and the Nigerian Tribune, earning a reputation for an acute news sense and tireless pursuit of the truth.
Under his leadership, Eagle Online grew into a respected outlet known for real-time reporting, online television features, and data-driven journalism. Colleagues say Oladipo inspired both younger reporters and senior editors with his humility, readiness to mentor, and deep dedication to the craft.
A member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Oladipo’s death is being mourned across Nigeria’s media community as the loss of a stalwart whose contributions shaped modern online journalism in the country.
