Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been abducted by armed men in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, with his location still unknown.

The reported incident occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Tawakalitu Restaurants and Catering Services.

Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the attackers stormed the restaurant and forcibly took Sowore away. They alleged that the assailants were political thugs linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), although this claim has not been independently confirmed.

Images and videos from the scene reportedly showed damaged tables and chairs, with parts of the restaurant vandalised. A vehicle parked outside was also said to have been damaged, while another had a flat tyre.

The alleged abduction was announced through posts on Sowore’s verified Facebook and X accounts. One post stated: “Armed thugs kidnap Sowore. His current location is unknown!”

Sowore, a prominent activist, journalist and politician, is the AAC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. He was reportedly in Ekiti State for campaign-related activities.

On Thursday, October 29, his defence counsel told the Federal High Court in Abuja that Sowore was in Ekiti for campaign engagements. The court then adjourned his ongoing cyberbullying trial until November 3, 2026.

As of the time of filing this report, Sowore’s whereabouts remained unknown, and the full circumstances of the alleged abduction had not been officially established. No confirmation from the Ekiti State Police Command or other authorities was immediately available.
