Nigeria’s health authorities are investigating two suspected cases of Ebola in the country’s North-East region, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced.
In an update issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the NCDC said both individuals have been isolated as officials carry out contact identification, contact listing and laboratory testing.
The agency cautioned that the cases remain unconfirmed until laboratory results are available.
“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” the NCDC said.
The public has been urged to maintain proper hand hygiene, improve sanitation practices and comply with instructions from public health authorities.
The NCDC assured Nigerians that it would release further updates as verified information becomes available.
The development comes 11 days after Nigeria recorded its first confirmed Ebola case in more than a decade. On October 20, health authorities confirmed that a 42-year-old Swiss woman who travelled from Uganda to Abuja had tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
She was isolated and treated by Nigerian health workers before being evacuated to Switzerland for further care.
The NCDC’s announcement, posted on X, said the two suspected cases were identified in Nigeria’s North-East and that laboratory investigations were ongoing.
Reuters also reported that both individuals had been isolated while contact tracing and testing continued.
