Rigging Can’t Sell a Bad Product: Nigerians will choose better —Obi Media fires warning at governors

Mr. Peter Ob

The Peter Obi Media Office says it has uncovered what it describes as covert moves by some state governors to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the group warned that any election that is not free, fair, credible, and transparent will be rejected by Nigerians.

“Nigerians will resist any attempt to subvert their democratic will,” the statement said.

The media office further cautioned the governors that no amount of manipulation can compensate for a weak record of governance. It argued that voters will ultimately choose the best option available to them, regardless of attempts to rig the process.

It condemned what it called the governors’ growing desperation, saying they should focus on presenting their records of service, performance, and achievements rather than resorting to electoral manipulation or arrangements that could facilitate rigging.

“Leadership is a privilege earned through service, not a mandate to retain power through deceit, intimidation, or interference with the democratic process,” the statement added.

The Peter Obi Media Office has previously warned that Nigerians would resist electoral manipulation and would choose the candidate they believe best represents their interests.

Part of the statement reads:

“Nigerians have had enough and remain determined to reject undeserving leaders who have failed them.

“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for our nation. Nigerians are resolved to reclaim their country through the power of their votes.

“Let it be known that no degree of rigging, intimidation, or political manoeuvring can permanently silence the will of the people.

“Peter Obi continues to be the people's preferred choice because he embodies the strongest offering in the political arena: a leader defined by competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment, capable of raising Nigeria from its current condition and restoring its dignity, prosperity, and hope,” he said.

“The mandate rests with the people. Nigeria must function again, and it will be OK.”
