| IDP’s in a camp |

About 1, 520 registered Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) from the Numan Crises in Adamawa State who are taking refuge in Cham, a Gombe town that has a common border with Adamawa, are facing terrible health challenges.
A committee set up by the community to cater for the IDP’s, who are camped in a junior secondary school, said a nine year old child lost his life while two pregnant women were rushed to a nearby clinic for delivery .
Secretary of the committee and a personal assistant to Governor Dankwambo of Gombe State on Political Matters, Mr. Adamu Meriji Majoro, while receiving relief materials on behalf of the IDP’s from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) over the weekend, said the camp needs urgent attention following the serious medical challenges in the camp.
According to the principal of Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Cham, where the IDP’s are camped, Abdu Bappa, the school authority had to abruptly vacate the students when it was obvious that the number of IDP’s kept increasing into the town barely two days after the escalation of the Numan crises.
Presenting the relief materials on behalf of the NEMA Director-General, Engineer Mustapha Maihaja, the Gombe field coordinator, Hajiya Amina Ahman, regretted the occurrence of the crises and called on the warring communities to sheath their swords and embrace peace.
The relief materials comprising both food and non food items included maize, rice, detergents, adult and children clothing, baby foods among many others were delivered to the IDP”s.
