Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), passed away on Wednesday night (February 7, 2024) while watching the AFCON 2023 semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa.
He reportedly collapsed as South Africa was awarded a penalty in the later stages of the game, which ended in a 4-2 penalty shootout victory for Nigeria.
Ojougboh, who represented the Ika Federal Constituency in Delta State, was also a former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He rose to prominence in the political arena as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later defected to the APC.
Ojougboh was known for his involvement in the National Assembly and had the late Tony Anenih, a strongman of PDP politics, as his godfather. His sudden demise has shocked the political community in Nigeria.
