The recent release of 137 children from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State by armed bandits has been met with jubilation and relief by the Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria (CSWN).
The children, who were abducted and taken into the forest by armed terrorists on March 7, 2024, have finally regained their freedom after eighteen days, bringing immense joy to their families and the nation.
A press release signed by Reuben Buhari, Research and Press Officer, CSWN, commend the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani for his prompt intervention, but called for more efforts in rescuing other hostages still held by their captors in Borno, Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, and other States.
The organisation also commended the service chiefs who all came together to ensure freedom for these children as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his deliberate determination and assurance that ensured the children regain their freedom.
CSWN also commended everyone who played a role in contributing to the freedom of the school children.
The statement reads, "More significantly, we still have the 61 people kidnapped in Buda on 12 Match, 2024 and the 87 taken from Kajuru station - both in Kajuru LGA. Others include the 17 kidnapped from Goningora on 28 February 2024.
"The freedom for the 137 school children further highlights the fact that with determination and sincerity the Nigerian government can not only ensure the freedom of others being held against their will but also secure Nigeria for its citizens.
"The CEO of CSWN, Reverend Yunusa Nmadu, further calls on the government at all levels to become more proactive in preventing these types of mass school abductions before they happen.
"It is possible to prevent these types of abduction and save our people from such avoidable experiences. We encourage the government to also work toward securing freedom for those still in captivity," the statement concluded.
