In a thrilling men's 100m final, Noah Lyles secured his place in history as the first reigning World Champion to win the Olympic title since Usain Bolt in 2016.
Lyles, initially slow off the blocks, surged from 7th to 1st, finishing in a personal best of 9.79 seconds, just five-thousandths ahead of Jamaica's Kishane Thompson.
Fred Kerley added another medal to his Olympic collection by snatching the Bronze medal in 9.81s. Simbine repeated his position from the Tokyo Games, finishing 4th in 9.82s.
This victory marks Lyles as the first American male to win the Olympic 100m since Justin Gatlin in 2004, solidifying his status as "World's Fastest Man."
Lyles entered the competition as a favorite alongside Jamaican newcomer Kishane Thompson. He began his campaign cautiously, finishing second in his heat with a time of 10.04s, behind NCAA Champion Louie Hinchliffe.

In the semifinals, Lyles faced Oblique Seville, who previously defeated him. Seville won with a personal best of 9.81s, while Lyles clocked 9.83s. Thompson led his heat with 9.80s, followed closely by Fred Kerley at 9.84s.
In the final, Thompson surged ahead early, but Lyles found his rhythm at 60 meters, closing the gap. Both finished at 9.79s, with Lyles winning by five-thousandths of a second, marking a personal best and securing his first Olympic gold.
