Nigeria's women's basketball team, the D'Tigress, made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by becoming the first African team, men's or women's, to reach the quarterfinals of the basketball tournament.
With a 79-70 victory over Canada on Sunday, August, 4, the team secured its place in the knockout stage, a feat never before achieved by an African nation.
The D'Tigress will now face the defending champions, the United States, in the quarterfinals on August.
This will be the second time the two teams meet at the Olympics, with the US defeating Nigeria by 9 points in their opening group game at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Despite the challenge ahead, the D'Tigress have proven their resilience and skill throughout the group stage, physically overwhelming Australia in their opener and hanging tough with France to put the world on notice.
The team's dynamic backcourt duo of Ezinne Kalu and Amy Okonkwo have been instrumental in their success, leading the team's swarming full-court defense and fearless offense.
