The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of Monalisa Ayobami Stephen, a beloved plus-sized actress, media personality, and brand influencer.
Known affectionately as Gabacci, Monalisa passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos after battling complications from low blood sugar and internal bleeding.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Wednesday, May 14, by Seun Oloketuyi, CEO of Best of Nollywood (BON), who described her as a “hardworking and beautiful soul.”
Her immediate younger sister also verified the tragic loss.
Monalisa Stephen, aged 33, was widely recognized for her outspoken advocacy on body positivity, self-love, and mental health. She used her platform to challenge societal norms and encourage plus-sized women to embrace confidence and live authentically.
