Vice President Kashim Shettima paid a visit to Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, along with her family in London.
The visit comes amid preparations to repatriate the former president’s remains following his passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Shettima’s trip to London was initially directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also tasked him with checking on the health of the late president before his death.
The Vice President was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of the Nigerian delegation to receive Buhari’s body and ensure a dignified return to Nigeria.
The delegation was received in London by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.
President Tinubu has ordered national flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of the late leader, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023 and as military head of state between 1984 and 1985.
The visit to Aisha Buhari and her family was a significant moment of condolence and support from the Vice President during this period of mourning.
