[UPDATED]: Buhari’s burial rescheduled after consultations, final farewell now set for Tuesday

The burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed to Tuesday, July 15, 2025, following earlier reports that it would be held today, Monday, July 14.

Buhari passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 13, at a London clinic after a prolonged illness. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes and condolences from across Nigeria and the international community.

A presidential delegation led by VP Kashim  Shettima arrived in London on Monday to coordinate arrangements for returning Buhari’s remains to Nigeria, where a state burial will be held.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, however, announced the new burial date during a press briefing at the Government House in Katsina.

He explained that the decision to shift the burial to Tuesday was reached after extensive consultations with Buhari’s family and key stakeholders in London.

According to Governor Radda, the late president’s body is expected to arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, with the burial scheduled for 2 p.m. in his hometown of Daura.
