The proprietress of Alheri Model School, Gombe, Mrs Grace Samuel, has admonished graduating students of the school to maintain the high moral and academic standards they have acquired from the school.
She made the admonition while bidding them farewell during the school's Speech and Prize Giving Day/Graduation ceremony held at the multipurpose hall of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe.
She particularly told the students that, "never compromise your standards for short-term gain. The world does not need more followers, it needs principled leaders and compassionate servants."
She also reminded them that life after the walls of the secondary school will test their values, integrity and identity as they step into the world of tertiary education and adulthood. "Stay rooted in the principles you have learned here," she maintained.
She commended the management and staff of the school for ensuring that the students continually distinguished themselves in both internal and external examinations such as WAEC and NECO, confirming the high academic standards that Alheri Model School has been known for.
Speaking on the theme of this year's occasion, "Empowered to lead, Equipped to serve", Mrs Grace said it was chosen because it embodied the school's philosophy.
"Our focus has never been solely academic, we are building lives, shaping character and raising children to become visionary leaders and responsible citizens who understand that true leadership is anchored in service, humility and integrity. To serve selflessly is to possess heart. Here at Alheri, we instil both," she opined.
In an interview with our Correspondent, Mrs Grace decried the indulgence of students in examination malpractices in school and advised parents and school authorities to ensure they properly groom students for examinations.
"My call is for us to groom the children properly to uphold integrity and values. Once our values and morals are instilled, a lot of things will change," she pointed out.
The graduation ceremony witnessed a variety of presentations by the students such as cultural dances, essay and poetry presentations, drama, prayers for the students and teachers as well as presentation of prizes to graduands and students who distinguished themselves morally and academically.
