| Comfort Emmanson |
On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, an Ikeja Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos State, discharged Comfort Emmanson, a passenger accused of unruly conduct and assault on an Ibom Air flight.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami, released Emmanson after the police withdrew all five charges against her.
This development follows a statement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who announced the decision after discussions with aviation stakeholders.
The minister explained that the resolution came after reviewing the events, taking into account appeals from concerned parties, and acknowledging the remorse shown by those involved.
Keyamo also disclosed that Ibom Air agreed to retract its complaint against Emmanson, who had been arrested following the incident on August 10.
Emmanson was initially arraigned on Monday, granted bail set at N500,000 with two sureties, but was detained at Kirikiri Correctional Centre for failing to meet bail conditions.
When the case resumed, the prosecution, led by Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court of new developments prompting the withdrawal of the charges. An application to dismiss the case was submitted and accepted by the court.
Emmanson’s arrest and subsequent arraignment generated huge outcry across the country by many who felt that she was unfairly treated as she was not given a chance to table her side of the story.
