A Finnish court has convicted Simon Ekpa, the self-appointed Prime Minister of Biafra, on multiple serious charges including terrorism-related offenses.
The 40-year-old was found guilty of using his social media platforms to incite terror acts in Nigeria, belonging to a terrorist organization, and seeking the independence of Biafra through illegal means.
In addition to these terrorism-related convictions, the court also found Ekpa guilty of tax fraud and violating the Lawyers Act.
Although he is not a licensed lawyer, Ekpa’s role as a paralegal was scrutinized, leading to the violation charge.
Ekpa has been sentenced to six years imprisonment. Nigeria had formally requested his extradition, but the Finnish judicial process has now concluded with this sentencing.
Ekpa is considered to have already served nearly one year of his prison term.
The Nigerian government’s response to the conviction and sentencing is being awaited, as this case has significant political and security implications for both Finland and Nigeria.
