Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi was honored as the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year at the gala held Wednesday in Rabat.
The 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender emerged victorious over Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Egypt’s Mohammed Salah to claim the prestigious award for the first time since Mustapha Hadji’s 1998 win.
Hakimi played a crucial role in PSG’s treble-winning season, helping secure the Ligue 1 title, French Cup, and UEFA Champions League in 2024/25.
Osimhen, the 2023 winner, and Ademola Lookman, 2024’s honoree, were both edged out this year.
On the women’s side, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak took home the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, narrowly defeating Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade.
Ajibade captained the Super Falcons to their 10th Women’s African Cup of Nations victory, earning best player honors and three woman of the match awards during the tournament.
In addition, Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie claimed the Golden Glove for the third consecutive year, and the Super Falcons were named the Women’s National Team of the Year.
