Tensions flared at Abuja International Airport on Tuesday, November 4, when Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating yet another seizure of her passport.
In a widely shared live video on her social media, the Kogi Central lawmaker confronted immigration officials after being blocked from boarding her flight.
Natasha alleged that the Senate President directed the Comptroller General of Immigration to confiscate her passport without any formal explanation.
She described the incident as a blatant infringement on her constitutional right to free movement, expressing shock and frustration at the abrupt action occurring as she was about to travel.
At this time, the Nigeria Immigration Service and Senator Akpabio have not released any statements clarifying the situation or the motives behind the passport confiscation.
This episode echoes a similar controversy earlier this year during Natasha’s six-month suspension from the Senate, when her passport was also briefly seized under what she claimed were orders from Akpabio.
Although the passport from the live video was later released to her, the renewed dispute underscores ongoing tensions between the senator and the Senate President.
