With less than 24 hours remaining before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has shocked many by resigning his membership from the party.
On Monday, December 1, 2025, PDP’s Osun State chairman, Mr. Sunday Bisi, announced that the party would delay the primary election scheduled for Tuesday due to internal divisions. He also revealed that Governor Adeleke had withdrawn his interest in contesting the party’s nomination amid the ongoing crisis.
Contrastingly, a communication from the PDP national Secretariat confirmed that the primary would proceed as planned on Tuesday at Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osun’s capital.
Meanwhile, a resignation letter from Governor Adeleke dated November 4, 2025, surfaced Monday evening. Addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, the letter cited the party’s national leadership crisis as the key reason for his decision.
Titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the governor wrote: “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership with immediate effect.
I thank the PDP for the opportunities afforded me as Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State.”
