Nigerian travelers heading to the United Kingdom will switch to fully digital e-visas starting February 25, 2026, as the UK phases out old-school physical stickers.
The British High Commission announced this on Monday, February 16, 2026, confirming that e-visas will fully replace the traditional stickers once affixed to Nigerian passports. This digital shift aims to streamline travel processes.
“This means travellers will access their visa electronically through their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, marking a significant step in modernising the UK’s visa process,” the statement reads.
The BHC, however, noted that visa application requirements remain unchanged.
Travellers will still apply as usual, attend a visa application centre to provide biometric information, and meet all existing eligibility criteria.
The only difference is in how the visa is issued: instead of a physical sticker, applicants will receive a secure digital record of their immigration status.
The statement noted that Nigerians currently holding a valid vignette sticker do not need to take any action, as their physical visa remains valid until it expires or requires replacement.
“Passports will be returned more quickly, and travellers can manage their immigration status online at any time, from any location,” the British high commission said.
“The digital format offers stronger security, as e-visas cannot be lost, stolen, or tampered with.”
Gill Lever, British deputy high commissioner in Abuja, said the move to digital visas will streamline a key part of the visa process, making it more secure while reducing dependence on paper documents.
Applicants can access their e-visas through a UK visas and immigration (UKVI) account once their visa application is approved.
