In a seismic shift rocking Nigeria’s political landscape, former NNPP presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The ex-Kano governor and former defence minister sealed his move at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano, where he registered and picked up his ADC membership card amid cheers from thousands of Kwankwasiyya Movement supporters.
Kwankwaso announced the switch on his X handle: “New Dawn. We are ADC,” posted on Monday, March 30, 2026.
The high-profile ceremony drew a star-studded lineup of political heavyweights, including ADC National Chairman and former Senate President David Mark; party National Secretary and ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola; Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi; ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal; former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi; Senator Dino Melaye; ex-APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun; and former Imo Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
This defection signals fresh alliances ahead of future elections, with Kwankwaso’s loyal base poised to bolster ADC’s ranks.
