The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State says the resignation of its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was no shock.
In a statement released Sunday, March 29, 2026, by Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Karaye, the party confirmed receipt of Kwankwaso’s resignation letter. Officials had long anticipated the move amid ongoing talks among opposition groups to forge a formidable alliance for upcoming elections.
The NNPP framed the exit as a strategic step to rally opposition forces, unite key figures, and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, paving the way for national progress.
Even so, the party thanked Kwankwaso for his pivotal role in shaping the NNPP over the last three years.
“We thank the National Leader for contributing to the strength of the party as one of the country’s prominent opposition platforms,” the statement said.
It added that during his time with the party, the NNPP recorded significant political gains, including producing a governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and several state assembly members.
The party also wished him well in his future political journey.
“We wish him success in the 2027 general election and in his future political endeavours,” the statement added.
