In a fresh twist to former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s legal saga, the Kaduna State High Court has pushed his bail hearing to the first week of June 2026.
Justice Darius Khobo made the call today, Tuesday, April 21, during proceedings where el-Rufai showed up flanked by ICPC and DSS operatives.
Speaking to journalists post-session, el-Rufai’s lawyer, Ukpon Akpan, slammed the repeated delays as “politically motivated,” venting frustration over the holdup. Channels Television captured the fiery exchange.
This follows last week’s postponement from April 14, after ICPC arraigned el-Rufai on April 13 on an amended nine-count charge of fraud and abuse of office. Notably, co-defendant Amadu Sule was dropped from the case.
Meanwhile, in a separate federal high court matter in Kaduna, Justice Rilwani Aikawa granted el-Rufai N200 million bail.
El-Rufai has been under ICPC custody since February 19, following his EFCC release. He got a brief compassionate outing on March 27 after his mother’s passing.
