In a stunning shake-up at the House of Representatives, Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has ditched the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
House Speaker Rep. Abbas Tajudeen announced the moves during Thursday’s plenary session, reading out defection letters from four lawmakers amid rising political turbulence.
Joining Bello El-Rufai in the ADC switch are two Kaduna PDP reps: Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa.
Meanwhile, Kano’s Kamilu Ado jumped from ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and FCT’s Joshua Obika resigned from APC to NDC, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency.
All cited party infighting and uncertainty as their reasons for jumping ship, signaling deepening cracks in Nigeria’s major parties.
