Macron Calls for Silence at Nairobi Summit: ‘Go outside if you want to talk’

President Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron halted a youth session at Kenya’s Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, fed up with chatterbox attendees at the University of Nairobi.

A viral video from Business Insider Africa on Instagram captures Macron stepping up: “I’m sorry guys, but it’s impossible to speak about culture with such noise while super-inspired speakers are here making their case.”

He slammed the side-talking as a “total lack of respect” to the young voices on stage, adding, “If you want bilaterals or chit-chat, use the bilateral rooms or go outside. If you stay, we all listen, and play by the same rules.”

The summit gathers heads of state, policymakers, and young leaders to tackle Africa’s key development challenges.
