Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), has awarded contracts for three new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers to Chinese builders Hudong‑Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd.
The trio of vessels, each with a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, form part of BGT’s fleet renewal and replacement programme.
All ships will be equipped with state‑of‑the‑art X‑DF dual‑fuel propulsion systems, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
The order supports BGT’s strategy to modernize its fleet and maintain reliable LNG shipping capacity for Nigeria’s gas exports.
This technology improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions compared to older vessel designs.
According to a press statement issued by NLNG, The vessels are expected to be delivered in 2029.
They will be chartered by NLNG and managed by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML), an integrated maritime services company with a strong reputation for providing top-notch maritime services, the statement maintains.
“This is an important milestone in BGT’s plan to modernise its fleet and support cleaner, more efficient and future-ready operations,” it also said, adding that the vessels will meet global and EU emissions regulations and help NLNG maintain its OGMP 2.0 Level 5 rating.
The new vessels, Newsmart also gathered, will further strengthen NLNG’s ability to deliver cleaner energy to the world and support the company’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
