Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been officially re-elected governor of Ekiti State after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Ado-Ekiti.
INEC’s final collation, recorded on Form EC8E, shows Mr. Oyebanji won a commanding mandate with 319,224 votes. His nearest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 40,543 votes, while Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 12,872 votes.
The APC candidate secured victories in all 16 local government areas, delivering a comprehensive statewide sweep across both urban and rural constituencies.
INEC’s State Collation Officer, who oversaw the aggregation of results from the 16 LGAs, confirmed that Oyebanji met the legal requirements to be declared winner.
Official figures show 382,109 votes were cast, of which 6,332 were rejected. The exercise recorded 384,940 accredited voters from a total of 988,251 registered voters in the state.

Mr. Oyebanji’s return to office marks a notable moment in Ekiti’s political scene: he is now a two-term governor, reinforcing the APC’s hold on the state.
Unlike some past governors who served two non-consecutive terms - such as Ayo Fayose and Kayode Fayemi - Oyebanji’s consecutive re-election signals continuity for his party’s administration.
Analysts credit his win to the advantages of incumbency, wide political coalitions, and public perceptions of his administration’s performance in areas like infrastructure, education, health, and worker welfare.
In the run-up to the vote, Oyebanji attracted support from key political figures across party lines, traditional rulers, and grassroots networks in all 16 local government areas.
Opposition parties, especially the PDP and ADC, failed to present a united challenge, a divided field many observers say helped secure the APC’s victory.
The result cements the APC’s dominance in Ekiti and hands Oyebanji a fresh four-year mandate to continue his agenda.
