Poland coach Jan Urban hails performance after 2-2 draw with Super Eagles: “We played better”

Poland coach Jan Urban praised his side’s showing after a 2-2 friendly draw with Nigeria, yesterday, insisting his team did more than enough despite conceding two of the three chances the Super Eagles created.

Urban told reporters he wasn’t worried by the result, saying Poland maintained control after conceding and played well against a strong Nigerian side.

The friendly in question ended 2-2, a scoreline Urban framed as typical of recent matches where Poland dominated play but still conceded.

He singled out defensive lapses that allowed Nigeria to convert limited opportunities, noting that the hosts were “very cruel” in turning only two or three chances into goals.

Urban also referenced goalkeeper Kamil Grabara’s clearance as a rare moment that produced danger and stressed that the match, being a friendly, won’t be used to judge his team harshly.

Drawing on his experience, Urban said he felt no helplessness watching players whose season form carried into the training camp and suggested his reactions would be the same even after a full season.

Hear him: "We played better than the Super Eagles; they only converted two of their three chances," said Poland coach Jan Urban as he praised his team's performance while reflecting on the Nigeria vs. Poland 2-2 friendly match.

Urban told reporters: "The scenario from previous matches repeated itself – we played, and the opponent scored. But I wasn’t concerned because we played well. We continued to play well after the goal. It was a good match against a strong team."

“That goal could have been easily prevented. Up until that point, only Kamil Grabara’s clearance created a dangerous situation. I know how everyone should react in such situations; never mind the names.

“The worst part is that the opponent doesn’t create countless chances and takes only two or three. They’re very cruel to us. But these are friendly matches; they won’t judge us based on them.

“Today was a really good match. I didn’t feel helpless, watching the players who had the entire season behind them during this training camp. I would have behaved the same way after a full season. I know this from experience.”
