The Federal Government has announced Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as a public holiday to mark Eid ul‑Mawlid, the observance of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo conveyed the declaration on behalf of the government in a statement issued Friday, August 21, 2026, by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji‑Ojo extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urging all citizens to reflect on the Prophet’s example of compassion, humility and service.

He said those virtues are especially needed in the country today and encouraged Nigerians, not only Muslims, to draw lessons from them.
