Intimate I Do’s: Why Georgina and Ronaldo married in their living room

Georgina Rodríguez has explained why she and Cristiano Ronaldo opted for a quiet, at-home wedding instead of an extravagant public event.

The couple exchanged vows in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, on August 11, 2026, surrounded only by their five children. She later discussed the choice in an exclusive interview with Vogue.

As a child, Rodríguez imagined a fairytale wedding with a castle, carriage, long gown, and diamond crown. But after building a life and family with Ronaldo, her priorities shifted.

She said the couple already enjoy extraordinary luxuries - castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars - so what felt truly meaningful was an intimate celebration shared with their children.

“We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us,” she said.

They chose their living room intentionally: it’s where the family shares breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everyday moments. By marrying at home, Rodríguez hopes to create a lasting, personal memory for their children rather than staging a spectacle.

“In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table, the wedding vows of our parents.”

The ceremony marked 10 years since Rodríguez and Ronaldo first met at a Gucci store in Madrid, where she was working as a sales assistant. The couple’s five children were present, while Rodríguez wore a white Gucci silk suit and Ronaldo wore a beige suit.

Following the civil ceremony, the family went to the Sanctuary of Fátima in Portugal, where the couple received a religious blessing. Reports also indicate that the pair have not completely ruled out holding a larger celebration with relatives and friends in the future.

The wedding therefore reflected Rodríguez’s changing view of marriage: rather than focusing on grandeur, she chose a setting connected to the family’s everyday life and the memories she wants their children to carry into the future.
