Nigeria’s Super Falcons were edged out 1-0 by Cameroon in a tense WAFCON quarter-final after Nyadjou’s 19th-minute strike proved decisive.
Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina delivered a match-winning performance, making eight crucial saves as Nigeria pressed for an equaliser.
Despite creating several promising chances, the Falcons could not breach Bihina’s resistance, and Cameroon held on to their slim lead.
The loss ends Nigeria’s direct route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Only the four WAFCON semi-finalists earn automatic World Cup berths, so the Super Falcons, one of the quarter-final losers, must now navigate the African play-offs alongside the other three defeated teams.
Victory in that domestic play-off would send a team to the inter-confederation play-offs, offering a final shot at qualification.
What this means is that Nigeria’s Brazil hopes remain alive but now face a longer, riskier path.
The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in Brazil.
