Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua emerges as new chairman of Northern Senators’ Forum after Abdul Ningi’s suspension

Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua

The Northern Senators’ Forum has appointed Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the senator representing Katsina Central, as its new chairman following the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi representing Bauchi Central, from the Senate.

Yar’Adua, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), assumed the role after Ningi accused the Senate of padding the 2024 budget with N3.7 trillion. This accusation, although not uncommon in Nigeria, marks the first time a sitting senator involved in budget passage has made such a claim.

Senator Ningi cited ongoing issues within the National Assembly and the country as reasons for his resignation.

Additionally, Senator Tahir Mungono from Borno North was appointed as the forum’s new spokesperson, replacing Senator Sumaila Kawu, who had been cautioned by the Senate for sharing potentially disruptive content.
