Nigeria’s Super Eagles have rocketed to 26th in the world and third in Africa in the latest FIFA men’s rankings, unveiled on January 19, 2026.
That’s a stunning 12-place jump from their prior 38th spot, the team’s highest global position since May 2010, when they peaked at 21st.
The surge stems from their stellar run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they secured bronze without a single regular-time loss. They bowed out in the semi-finals to Morocco on penalties.
Morocco crashed the global top 10 at No. 8 despite their final defeat to Senegal, who climbed seven spots to 12th as AFCON champions. Equatorial Guinea tumbled the most (10 places to 107th), while Gabon shed the biggest points haul.
Spain still rules at No. 1, chased by Argentina, France, England, and Brazil in the top five, no shifts among the elite seven.
The next rankings drop on April 1, post the March 23–31 international window.
