In a landmark ruling, Nigeria’s Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effectively nullifying the party’s controversial convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Justice Stephen, delivering the majority judgment, ruled that the November 15-16, 2025, gathering blatantly defied an earlier Federal High Court decision by Justice James Omotosho.
The apex court sharply criticized the Turaki group for bypassing an appeal and instead seeking orders from a court of coordinate jurisdiction, a move it branded as a clear abuse of court process.
“Any litigant who engages in such abuse does so at their own peril,” the judgment warned.
Ultimately, the court threw out the appeal for lacking merit, reinforcing the supremacy of prior judicial orders that hands over the PDP to the faction controlled by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
