President Bola Tinubu skipped a high-profile project unveiling in Lagos, Wednesday April 8, 2026, to handle urgent security briefings, his Special Adviser on Public Communications, Sunday Dare, revealed.
Speaking on Channels Television Wednesday, Dare said the President, despite being in Lagos, put national security first amid rising threats. Beyond the pictures, the President has been buried in state matters, he noted.
Dare pointed to the past 10 days’ chaos, from the Jos attack to fresh troubles in Kaduna and Niger. “Unpleasant developments” demanded Tinubu’s focus, he said, with the leader “taking constant briefs, monitoring with intelligence agencies, and working the phones.”
Tinubu stayed engaged through consultations and meetings, prioritizing the crisis over the ceremony, Dare explained.
He stressed that urgent decisions were required, saying, “Because decisions have to be taken in a timely fashion.”
President Tinubu was represented at the inauguration of the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge project by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who commissioned the project on his behalf.
The event formed part of activities lined up during the President’s visit to Lagos, where he was expected to inaugurate several projects executed by the state government.
