Martins Iyeh and Ijeoma “Mercedes” Emi were evicted from Big Brother Naija Season 11 during Sunday’s (August 9, 2026) live show, becoming the first contestants to exit the reality series.
The pair landed in the bottom two after the season’s first public vote. Martins received 1.63% of votes and was named the first to leave, while Mercedes had 2.29% and followed in the first double eviction of the “Show Ya Sef” season.
Fellow nominee Keivo survived with 2.92%.
The eviction occurred two weeks after the July 26 premiere, which introduced 24 housemates competing for a ₦160 million prize package that includes ₦100 million in cash and an SUV.
The season is hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and carries the theme “Show Ya Sef,” with the tagline “Everything Is For The Taking.”
Martins and Mercedes’ time in the house
Martins Iyeh, 30, from Kogi State, entered as a visual storyteller, creative director and model. A keen basketball player who jokingly claimed mind-reading as a secret skill, he said from the outset that he came “to have fun” and dared viewers to vote him out if he didn’t deliver.
His birthday quickly became one of the season’s standout moments after housemates organised a party, highlighted online when Mercedes performed a lap dance for him.
Ijeoma “Mercedes” Emi, 26, from Delta State, came in as a massage therapist, performance artist and concierge entrepreneur.
Promising entertainment, authenticity and “boss energy,” she soon raised her profile with spirited involvement in house activities and a widely discussed clash with fellow housemate Oyin.
Week one twist
The opening week ended with a surprise twist: Biggie introduced “The Gambit,” which secured two housemates a spot in the house through to the finale but made them ineligible for the grand prize.
Flora and Aikou were named the female and male Gambits. Other format changes also shuffled early roles, Chimsom Chuka won the first Head of House challenge, while Tram was assigned the HOH lounge and chose Sheba as his companion.
Week two heats up
The game turned more strategic in week two when Faith Gamde (Sheba) won the Head of House challenge, becoming the season’s first female HOH. Biggie rolled out “Conspiracy Hour,” a new feature that let housemates meet chosen allies in a designated zone to plot saves and plans.
Nominations were reshaped too: instead of naming who they wanted out, housemates were asked to name three people they wanted to save.
Tram, Barry, Cassi, Goddessa and Bells initially led the save vote count. Sheba later exercised her HOH power to strip Cassi of safety and transfer that immunity to Chimsom Chuka.
With the Gambits already protected, the revised rules left many housemates exposed to the public vote, including Martins and Mercedes. The week also produced heated arguments, social events, flirtations, wager tasks and the early formation of alliances as contestants jockeyed for advantage.
Martins and Mercedes’ eviction marked the first departures from the “Show Ya Sef” house, narrowing the field as the remaining housemates press on for the ₦160 million prize.
